This four-part series of serigraphs, composed of excerpts taken from historical prints, explores Europe’s colonisation of the New World – territories, which were imagined as sites of wild nature, devoid of any political system and simply waiting to be domesticated by modern civilisation. In his sequential narrative, Seymen presents the gradual shift from notions of Arcadia towards occupation, exploitation and full appropriation, which was carried out at the expense of the violent destruction of indigenous cultures.
