Otobong Nkanga
Works
The two performances by Nkanga deal with the struggle to inhabit and negotiate a personal space in a new social environment. The solo performance Glimmer investigates how to overcome initial hesitations when the host, in this case the artist herself, finds ways of welcoming newcomers, her audience.
Face Me, I Face You, a performance for three dancers, draws our attention to the laborious process of navigating through situations that are defined by the rules and conventions of society. The staircase becomes the space where dancer and audience encounter each other in an unconventional setting.
