The two performances by Nkanga deal with the struggle to inhabit and negotiate a personal space in a new social environment. Face Me, I Face You, a performance for three dancers, draws our attention to the laborious process of navigating through situations that are defi ned by the rules and conventions of society. The staircase becomes the space where dancer and audience encounter each other in an unconventional setting.
