Daniel Knorr

Roadblocks were placed along the Berlin Wall to prevent cars or trucks breaking through the line of defence. These are known as Tschechenigel or »Czech hedgehogs«. Their simple yet martial form is a radical symbol for the perversion of the civil act of division. Artist Daniel Knorr has erected a barrier in front of the Maxim Gorki Theater using these roadblocks, only to thwart this action by planting them with palm leaves. With this intervention that he developed for the Herbstsalon, Knorr has created an absurd monument to overcoming borders while at the same time providing an ironic commentary on conservative planned greenery in public space.
