2. Berliner Herbstsalon

Organised by Shermin Langhoff with Aljoscha Begrich, Çağla Ilk and Antje Weitzel

Where do people arrive when they seek refuge in Berlin? For two weeks the Gorki is offering 30 international artists and theatre-makers a platform to present both old and new works to answer this question. Apart from the exhibited artworks, performances, debates and films will focus on the boarders which visibly and invisibly separate the inhabitants of Berlin and Europe.

Performed on the Gorki stage the theatre project by Sebastian Nübling in placed in the center of the festival: In unserem Namen follows the crisis of representation and calls into question, how solidarity movements can become political action.

After the 1. Berliner Herbstsalon 2013 addressed questions of identity, nation building and origin, the Gorki dedicated the second edition of the festival to the subject flight. Berlin is a city of immigrants that has grown through and with the people who have fled here. And yet the new arrivals are always, from the first day of their Berlin biography, part of this city's population and will change this country in the years to come.

The refugee movement raises questions about humanism and dignity, participation and representation, which affect all of us and our social coexistence. Refugees have brought these questions into the heart of the capital city of Berlin and they remain unanswered. The 2. Berliner Herbstsalon is an attempt to appropriate the space for a temporary ideal public: watching, thinking and speaking as a communal experience.
